Mr. Rogers Goes to Washington

In 1969, the US Senate had a hearing on funding the proposed Corporation for Public Broadcasting, but President Nixon wanted it cut in half for the Vietnam War.

Fred Rogers was amazing. How did our cynical world ever accommodate someone so nakedly sincere?

I really liked Mr. Rogers. He never made you want to run and hide like Captain Kangaroo could. Although some of those puppets kind of make you want to cry. The platypuses are a very good example. I think they could have used a little makeup... yikes! I think Pee Wee Herman would have made Mr. Rogers cry!
